Iconography and Iconology of Greek Pottery

 

Painted vessel of Greek pottery production with figural decoration is the most important source to distinguish change in art-, religious, mentality and social history of a polis society through time because of their sheer number, state of preservation and long tradition. Corresponding questions are approached by various investigations and studies on the meaning of images and the function of Greek and lower Italian vase paintings.
